Hey, it's OK!

I saw this a few months back in Glamour... Loved it so much that I had to post it and of course do my own.

Glamour
1.  To wear Silly Bandz one day and Grandpa's Rolex the next
2.  To get the dressing actually on the salad, not on the side
3.  To wear the exact same outfit this Tuesday as you did last    Tuesday, right down to the earrings
4.  To let whoever feels like it pay for dinner, without mental gymnastics over gender roles and who earns more
5.  To come up with a whole load of laundry so your lucky underwear will be clean for tomorrow
6.  To be just the tiniest bit scared of revolving doors
7.  To have an unreasonably large purse.  Worked for Mary Poppins, right?

Mine
1.  To be the first one to text after swapping numbers with a guy
2.  To change your polish twice a week to keep a fresh look for the weekend
3.  To blog search a outfit for a big night, then piece it together at Forever 21 or the local Goodwill
4.  To pick one night a week to stay in to deep condition your hair, do laundry or even just pamper yourself with a home facial.
5.  To say a prayer before every meal, whether its in public or not
6.  To go outside the box and try new things, like...foods, train ride alone or a haircut that changes your whole look
7.  To admit your real age and be proud of it

Dry Off @ The Beach.

Years ago I received a Ralph Lauren beach towel for my birthday and for some reason their beach towels became my favorite.  Every year I shop at their outlet for a new one, whether it be to match a certain swimsuit or just because.  I recently found these to be some they have out this year.

Rain Accessories...

Maybe I'm just a person who doesn't likes to carry things around, hince the fact I rarely have a purse on me.  But what is the big fashion swoop about umbrellas?? Am I missing something?? A few years ago I purchased one at Nordstrom thinking it's cute and I will use it. I have NOOO idea where its at or whatever happened to it.  I see people all the time with umbrellas.  Even noticed how target has courtesy umbrella bags as you walk in the store and make a right for a shopping cart, there they hang Target logo'd bags to stick your wet umbrella in.  Raincoats are another thing that I care rarley about.  Seriously people they aren't even cute.  Now on the other hand, being that I grew up playing in the mud and out in the country I'm all about the rain boots..AKA: Rubber Boots!  LOVE them. Have so many pairs that I have a special place to store them! Here are a couple that I proudly own...

Polish vs Shellac

If you follow nail trends, you must have heard of Shellac – a new system from Creative Nail Design (CND).  The Shellac manicure is becoming tremendously popular due to its long-lasting shine and chip-free results.  Normally lasting about 14 days but can last longer.  Also, compared to acrylics or gels, Shellac can be removed without filing – which means it’s healthier for your natural nails.
The system offered to professionals includes a base coat, top coat and 12 polish colors that cure in a UV lamp.  Which is much more durable than regular polish.
I never get manicures, I mainly do them myself. I went to try out the Shellac to see if it would be worth purchasing and applying myself.  A Shellac manicure costs between $25-$40, depending on the salon. Yet, let me for a moment expound on the joys of being pampered at a salon, which cannot be duplicated at home.  The warm soaks, hand massages and delicious-smelling lotions will undoubtedly keep manicurists in business.

Pearly Whites.

Teeth Bleaching used to be a weekly routine for me, until I realized how sensitive my teeth were getting and overly white!  So I gave up for a while and started to slack off.  Recently I've been noticing alot of other peoples teeth and how white they are and how I want mine back that way, too!  Not that I have mellow yellow teeth but have noticed a slight color change in them.  I've tried the bleaching trays from my dentist along with the expensive bleach that goes with them and very much over having trays in my mouth for hours at a time.  So I now am trying Crest 3D Whitening Strips.  Today will be day 2.. My teeth I must say are a tad bit sensitive so I went and purchased Extra White Sensodyne Toothepaste! I did notice after just 30 minutes that my teeth had dropped a tad of a shade, or maybe it was just in my head that they had.

Anyone who knows me well knows that I love to wear hats, beanies and headbands! I have a huge collection of each one and love wearing them since I am not a fan at all of doing or having my hair done.  I have recently picked up a few new headbands for spring and summer...

Haircolor.

Being that I am naturally brunette I tend to color my hair in the same color family as my natural color and often times a tad bit darker.  About 8 months ago I decided to let my natural color grow out, til I came across a friend who is a hair stylist that had some really cool colors in her hair and it looked very smooth and natural. She then said let me try it on you its the new thing that is in and its called Ombre.
"Ombre" literally means gradation in French, which refers to the dark-to-light fade of color that is used in the technique. Instead of color that starts at the root, darker roots blend into a lightened mid-shaft and end.  It's a beachier, more natural looking version of the enduring "visible root" trend. I agreed of course. Made my appointment and had it done.  I am now LOVING it.  Going back soon for a 2nd round to try to get it a bit lighter!

Filhoses

Today is Terça-feira Gordo (Fat Tuesday).  The day before lent starts. Portuguese tradition is to make/ eat Filhoses and watch carnival dances at the local hall or gather at someones home and celebrate the coming of Easter.  Filhoses is translated into portuguese donut.  A bread like batter that is fried in oil piece by piece then then quickly dipped in sugar and served with coffee or on its on. YUM!  Can you say sky high cholesterol and an added 10lbs on your butt QUICK!  But they are just soo good and of course you can't eat just one, especially when they are warm.

Ingredients:
  • 6 cups flour
  • 3 (1 ounce) packages yeast
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 8 eggs, beaten room temperature
  • 2 cups milk, warmed
  • 1/4 lb butter, melted (1 stick butter)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions...Total Time: 1.25 Hours
  1. 1 Mix all ingredients together
with hands for 5 minutes until dough is smooth.
  2. 2 Let rise 1 hour.
  3. 3 Pull off various size pieces and
    fry in hot oil.
  4. 4 Drain on towels and sprinkle
    with sugar.

Giving it up for Lent..

What to give up for Lent has been pondering my mind for the past couple of weeks...Finally I made my decision today.  Solid Foods.  I will live on soups, oatmeal, water, milk and tea for 40 days starting this Wednesday, aka Ash Wednesday.  I will also be attending a church service every weekend, gym no less than 4 times a week and visit my grandparents at least once a week.  I believe that this is a good start to a new begining.

My Five Friday Favs... a few days late.

2.  Avon Favor Saver Lipgloss.  Have one in every pocket.
3.  Forever 21 Coral Scarf.  Just purchased and I love the bold color.

Fake Bake Tanning

For years I was an avid, well more like addicted tanning bed tanner. From my early teens til my mid 20's. I remember the summer days of getting up an hour earlier just to go tan at 6:30am when it was still cool before 105 degree weather hit for the day.  The past few years I have relied on being out in the sun doing yard work or a Sunday afternoon of floating in the local canal to get some color on me then touching it up with a product from Fake Bake.  Thanks to my friend Lisa for getting me hooked on their products.  I started off with getting random spray tans from different salons and spas, til I discovered that Fake Bake also has a line of spray tanning that is done by an actual person with a little spray gun and not a heartless machine.  My favorite go to person is Geneva at Renaissance. She is very thorough and takes her time to make sure you get the best tan for your buck.  That is also where I purchase the other products.  Fake Bake spray tan in the salons can run anywhere from $35-50, the take home do it yourself line they have runs anywhere from $15-45 depending where its purchased and which product.  I personally use Fake Bakes Airbrush (see pic).  I feel it goes on smooth and evenly, I also use the Fake Bake Sunless and Skinny (see pic) to get a deeper color or to hide tan lines, in which it does quite well.
